“Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a
mirror of our attitudes and expectations.” --Earl Nightingale
Environment and the issues regarding
it is now one of the major concerns globally. It is important for us to take
steps now so that we have a better and a safe future. Due to our activities the
problems have increased in the past few years. Every small thing related to
global warming and issues regarding it are connected. We have to try and
maintain the balance so that we can shape a better future.
Our coordinator Vijayalaxmi ma’am
decided that we would we celebrating environmental week. We decided that we
would we celebrating it on all the four days that is from 7th –
10th July. We planned the activity for the four days and ma’am
allotted each group with a topic. We were divided into 3 groups as following:

I was given the responsibility of making the display board
also, where I had to make a poster regarding the environment and the topics
included in our program. It was a little difficult to make paintings related to
natural disaster. Therefore I made a poster which included some things on
reduce, reuse and recycle.
On the first day my friends Shradha and Kaustubh spoke on
the topic “My Planet, My Home. “They explained the audience about how the
humans are influencing the environment and how the environment is disturbed due
to the human activities. I was given the responsibility of saying the prayer.
On the second day Shafqat and Jaidev spoke about the effects
of the human activities on earth. They also spoke about the natural disasters
and the cause behind it. They highlighted the topic by sharing the connection
between pollution, natural disasters and the cause behind the calamities. The
responsibility which I was given was to play the presentation according to the
sequence of the program.
On day three the topic was reduce, reuse and recycle. I and
Himanshu decided that as it’s the last topic for the program and it’s a point
which is connected to global warming so we’ll do something creative and new. We
planned that we would conduct a discussion and make the audience more aware
about reduce, reuse and recycle as well as about the plastic waste management.
To make the discussion more fun we decided that we would give away the
information sheet on reduce, reuse and recycle. The discussion was conducted by
Himanshu. I felt that I ddidn'thave the skills to improvise during a discussion. I wasn't disappointed by this but I hope
to learn it soon. Our theme needed a pledge so that the program would be
innovative. I myself made the pledge knowing that I had the skills to do it.
As we were engaged with issue
related to environment and global warming, we planned to have a tree
plantation, where all the students from the lower grades to the higher would be
involved in this activity. We instructed the students to bring such plants
which would survive in our city’s weather. On the last day, we had planned that
we would conduct tree plantation. I and my other classmates worked
collaboratively during the selection of appropriate places where the students
can plant their saplings. I decided that the dustbins should be placed near the
pothole where the sapling is to be planted. It was to assure that the students shouldn't throw the plastic here and there. I also planted a sapling and
promised myself that it would stay alive and grow.
During the activity I learned that it is important to show
our responsibilities and understand it too. I believe that I did show
commitment towards the activity and understood how important it is to show
perseverance and to know your responsibility. At first I thought that the
activity wouldn't be so fun but later on when I got to know myself more and my
skills, it lead to a successful program for the whole week and I had fun too by
learning some new things.
