Organizing sports day_3

Day 3

Today was the last of the annual sports day and I was really excited.  It was the last day to see the children participate with more enthusiasm. Although I was tired already because of working in the sun for the past two day, I didn’t lose the hope and still worked. Today they were more athletic events, mostly running races. I use to love athletics when I was small. I could understand how these kids are fascinated by it and how they want to win. After which there was this interesting event which was the jalebi race. Jalebi is sweet which is very famous in India. In the race the children had to eat the jalebi without using their hands. I and my friend Shradha and some teachers supervised the children. It was really great to see the children mouth getting watery and how they just want to quickly eat it by using their hands. I myself for a moment felt like picking up one jalebi and eating it.

After the primary sports event was over, I had to participate in the higher or secondary annual sports event. I didn’t have much energy left thus I didn’t participate. I didn’t lose hope and made myself understand that I will participate next year and set my goals and achieve it. It was really great experience for me. I realized that how sports is an important part of these children. These children need some break from their studies and need to relax and sports is the thing which relaxes the mind. This activity changed my perspective of sports. I realized that sports is important for our body and mind. And if any difficult task comes in my life, I would see that difficulty like a sport and play it well. I really never knew if I could organize this event with the help of my friends and complete it also. I learned not to lose hope and I gained more confidence when it comes to organization.  The very important thing which I learned from this activity was how important it is to work collaboratively and not lose hope. It also taught me that when you are in a team, communication with the team mates is necessary.

Till then stay happy!

Organizing sports day_2

Day 2

As I came on the ground I saw a packet of balloons. I wondered why we would require balloons. As Ms. Ancina ma’am told us that we were going to organize the balloon race, the first thing which we had to do was to blow up all the balloons and get ready for the race. Blowing up balloons is a very tiring thing for me. My friend Himanshu blew up almost 50 balloons and I was amazed to see that. I did get tired in between but when I saw Himanshu just blowing and blowing the balloons I didn’t let my energy go down fully and helped him and my friend Shradha by blowing up more balloons until the packet was empty.

In this balloon race, the children had to burst the balloons. It was so great to see that insouciance attitude in these little children. I could clearly see that they simply enjoyed and didn’t care so much about winning, there were many more events after the balloon race but most of them was athletics now. Tomorrow would be the final day and I am keen to participate with more energy as it’s the last day. Till then stay happy!

Organizing sports day

We planned to organize a sport event for the primary students during the annual sports week. Our CAS coordinator Ms. Vijayalaxshmi informed Mr. Nair who was responsible for the whole event.  After informing, we got a list of students’ class wise and the events happening. All of us discussed and decided who was comfortably with which class and divided the work respectively.
Groups
Students in charge
Group A – Pre-primary/Primary
Himanshu & Shafqat
Group B – Grade 1 – 2
Rucha, Shradha  & Asmita
Group C – Grade 3 – 5
Kaustubh & Danish
Group D – Grade 6 – 7
Jaidev & Tanmay

I, Asmita and Shradha were responsible for group B that is grade 1-2. We were responsible for all the three days of the sports event. I had decided that no matter what happens, I will complete my goal at the end of this activity.
Day 1
All of us gathered in the basketball court for the primary sports week. The children also arrived and were made to settle down according to groups which we had made. All of us went to Ms. Ancina and asked her what we had to do in detail. Firstly there were no tracks made in the basketball court. The football ground wasn’t available which is why we had to conduct the primary sports week here. I, Asmita, Himanshu and Shafqat worked collaboratively to draw the lines with the help of chalk.

The tracks were necessary for athletic events. Therefore we made the tracks soon and started the sports day. The first event was frog race. As soon as the race was over for pre-primary students, it was time that the group B that is grade 1 and 2 had to participate. First we lined up all the students of grade one on the starting point of the race. I would be at the finish point holding the ribbon for the finish line and simply see the energy of these children and how they enjoy this race. It was big challenge for me to handle these kids. Although I had learned to handle these little children in my last activity, it came up as a new challenge for me. After grade one it was the turn of grade two students. After the frog race, it was time for the on leg race. In this race the children leg are supposed to run on one leg. It was great to see the competiveness in these children.

I was happy to know that these kids do realize that this is just a game and winning and losing will keep happening. This is what real sportsmanship is about. At the end of today I realized how I had an increase in my capacity to work and take care of these children. I was proud of myself that I could do all this. That’s it for day. Till then stay happy!
